Moving advice

Removals questions, answered honestly

These are the questions Reading customers ask us most. That includes the questions about price that most removals websites quietly avoid.

01How much do removals cost in Reading?

Most local Reading moves are priced on crew size, vehicle size and time on site. A one or two bed move inside Reading usually takes two movers between half a day and a full day. A three bed move takes a full day with two or three movers. A four or five bed move takes a full day with three or four movers plus a packing day beforehand. Packing, storage, dismantling and parking suspensions appear as clear line items rather than hiding inside an hourly rate.

02How far in advance should I book a removals company?

Two to four weeks is ideal. Fridays, month ends and the end of the school year book up first. If your completion date is not fixed yet we can pencil in a provisional date and confirm it once contracts exchange.

03What insurance do you carry?

Every move carries goods in transit cover and public liability insurance as standard. Higher value cover for antiques, art or specialist equipment can be arranged in advance. Tell us at survey stage and we will include it in your written quote.

04Do I need a parking permit or bay suspension?

In central Reading, Caversham and parts of Henley the answer is often yes. We handle the council application on your behalf where a suspension is needed and the cost is shown in your written quote.

05Can you move me if my completion is delayed on the day?

Yes. Delays happen in almost every chain. If keys are late we hold the load securely on the vehicle. If the day is lost completely we move your goods into storage overnight and deliver as soon as the keys are released.

06Will you dismantle and reassemble furniture?

Yes. That covers beds, wardrobes, flat pack units, garden furniture and desks. Fixings are bagged and labelled per item so nothing goes missing between the two properties.

07Do you move pianos, safes and other heavy items?

Upright pianos, safes, American fridges, gym equipment and large garden items are all fine. Tell us at survey so we send the right crew size and the right equipment. Grand pianos are handled with a specialist partner.

08What will you not transport?

For safety and legal reasons we cannot carry petrol, gas bottles, paint, fireworks, pressurised aerosols, illegal items or live animals. Plants travel at the owner's risk. Please empty the fuel from mowers before move day.

09Do you offer long distance and nationwide removals?

Yes. We regularly move Reading customers to London, the South West, the Midlands and beyond. Most UK moves finish in a single day. Longer routes run as a two day move with the load secured overnight.

10How should I prepare for moving day?

Pack a first night box with your kettle, chargers, bedding, medication and toiletries. Label every box by room. Empty and defrost the freezer 24 hours ahead. Take your meter readings and keep valuables and documents with you rather than on the van.
